lyrics

There’s a lonely lighthouse keeper all alone but for his cat
And although he’s a gentle man the cat kills anything it can
We’re two little birds on our islet off an aisle

In the closing of our time
We’re the last two of our kind

I don’t know how we could have seen this
There’s are hunters here between us
Here to take us to our end

Sad havoc is the child of the newly minted wild
Here to flush out all our weakness with selection given sleekness
It’s a tragedy our wings have become vestigial things
And the only talk of flying is just a metaphor for dying

Call it natural naiveté
It’s not natural selection
After an epoch of solitude
We’re moving in a new direction

The story’s kind of murky as these things tend to be
There was more than just one person and plural feline agency
There’s distortion in the details; an entanglement of blame
It’s a story of fortuity that happens every single day.
And the outcome is the same

I don’t know how we could have seen this
There are reapers here between us
Here to take us to our end
Come to take us to our end
And they will take us to our end
